      I chose this job because I could explore whatever subject I want one it’s innovative without having a boss or someone above me that tell me what to think and what to do. This job is a kind of detective job, you have to solve as much as you can some mysteries, it’s exciting !

      After I had finished my studies and my PhD, I applied for jobs at companies and at universities. I got several offers, but in the end I decided to stay at the university because it allows me to follow my interests and gives me a lot of freedom. I always had a passion to understand things and to use my hands to build things. Doing experiments in the lab to learn how blood cells work combines these two aspects into one. It sometimes feels like I turned my hobby into my career.

      I more so fell into this job rather than chose it!
      When I finished college I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to work in industry or academia. I applied and interviewed for a number of jobs and I heard back first for a research assistant role which i was offered and accepted.
      I’m happy with my decision, I have met many people over the past few years and learned so much!

      I’ve always loved science, but making discoveries that no one else has ever known before, what a job.

      Working in biology, this area is really the next big area of human exploration for the 21st century, that can really change how we understand ourselves, and how we live as a species (if you include genetic engineering of food as well).

      Working on cancer and trying to understand how cells work is super interesting, but also that chance to make discoveries that could help people live longer is so motivating, the chance to help change lives.

      I like deciding what research I want to do and what subject I want to focus on. I get to develop my own experiments and drive my own progress!

      When I was finishing college, I wasn’t sure what job I wanted after I graduated whether I wanted to work in research or work for a company. Before we finished college we had to do a work placement to experience what its like to work in the real world. I was put into a research lab and I was thinking at first that this wasn’t where I wanted to work but I loved it. Loved that I got to do different experiments everyday, got to meet new people and I made lots of new friends.

    It is good to keep options open and try different jobs. You learn new skills in every job and that makes you unique. This has led me to where I am today. To me, being a Researcher opens up a world like no other. I am able to share my skills in more than one project team. My interest in building things (like LEGO) can be used in an experiment too. Now, I get to narrate a story to the world with each discovery I make.
