I think a carefully planned windfarm is a great thing. Given how windy Ireland is, we could generate quite a bit of energy (especially offshore in the Atlantic).
If you get the chance, the Whitelee windfarm outside Glasgow is Europe’s largest on shore windfarm. They’ve got a great visitor centre, and the windfarm has loads of tracks for mountain biking through it. It’s amazing. The blades on these massive windmills are wider than I am tall. They’re really fabulous to get up close and see in action.
I believe it can be a really good project if handled and planned properly. We all know that wind energy is the fastest-growing energy source in the world. There are so many advantages of wind power like it is cost effective, its sustainable, it’s a clean fuel source and the most important Ireland’s wind supply is abundant,. Wind turbines also don’t produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain or greenhouse gasses. So the project can benefit if the government will plan it properly.
