I think things like Imascientist.ie are what get people all fired up and its a pity its only once a year. I know in the EPA we’ve got materials together for Geography Teachers to use, we have a stand at the BT Young Scientists (and sponsor an environmental prize) and I’m involved in a group trying to tweet more and also come up with a Citizen Science-type initiative, so any ideas greatly appreciated. What do you think would work?
I was in my kids school today with a microscope and slides of all types of cool rocks and fossils so hopefully I’ll have got at least one of them interested in Geology.
Its all too easy for scientists to keep the noses in books or stuck in the lab. Personally I think there’s no point being a scientist and coming up with great ideas unless you get out there and get people interested and inspire students to take up science
Please email post any ideas you have as I’m now 41, dance like a dad at weddings and am hopeless uncool. Please help!
I believe the only way to make more people interested in science is by explaining concepts using fun activities..they should teach things using videos..its easy to remember things and understand. I really like how government here is encouraging science by these event like I am a Scientist or Physics busking. It provides a platform to young people to see that becoming scientists is not difficult and you can enjoy your life as well.. Can participate in sports or do anything even if you are a scientist..
I always used to think that life will be really hard if I will become a scientist but trust me its not 🙂
