  I’m not sure we ever will have hovercars. Wheels are a great technology, straightforward, easy to steer, easy to look after. Roads for wheeled vehicles are everywhere. Hovercraft are awkward, clumsy to steer, kick up dust and water and are very noisy. Their only real advantage is that they are amphibious which might be helpful in a swamp but not for the daily commute.
  
  I’m sure that that cars in 2114, or even 2514 will still have wheels. What will power them is the big question!
