• Question: Approximately, how many fish (not counting sharks ) are alive today?

      Hi Bondey!

      There are roughly 28 000 species of fish in the sea (excluding sharks) – and probably more we haven’t discovered yet. One quarter of these live in coral reefs, although coral reefs occupy less 1% of area in the ocean. – Thats why we need to make sure to protect them, because so many species live there.
      There are also a lot of fish species in the deep sea, but we get to hear about them less! They have the greatest numbers of all fishes if we could measure it in their combined mass!
