I like chemicals when I do experiments with them or they are useful, but not when they are dangerous and unpleasant. Like formaldehyde, which I use to preserve animals: smells terrible and is really dangerous because it can cause cancer. – Better to stay away from it.
Depends on the chemicals, really. I don’t like working with really dangerous things like chloroform or acids, as one little mistake could cause terrible burns. Some of them will just eat straight through your gloves if you spill them, so I can’t afford to have fun with them.
I like working with agar and agarose gels though, because they’re easy to make, not very dangerous and they wobble like jelly, which tends to make me giggle a lot for some reason…
