It’s quite simply the best explanation for why the universe is the way it is. I wouldn’t say I “believe” in it. Belief is accepting something as true without evidence that it’s true. I don’t “believe” that 2+2=4. I’ve read some of the mathematical evidence for 2+2, including some pretty long discussions on what “2” and “+” mean. Likewise, I’ve seen a lot of the evidence for the big bang theory, especially the cosmic background radiation discovered by the COBE satellite around 1989-1992, and, well, things like cosmic microwave background radiation wouldn’t exist if the universe had come into being some other way. An astrophysicist like Eoin there will probably have a far better answer. 🙂

This is not my area of expertise, but I want to chip in! Yes, I do. Why? Because the scientific evidence points to this being the answer for the start of our universe. Being a scientist is really about being curious about the world, curiosity leads us to try and find answers, the Big Bang Theory is a good answer!

Yes, I believe it, how else would the solar system be so big and uniform if there wasn’t a big bang.
