Question: Hi Everyone,
How did the specific things you worked on when you were in 5th class help the work you do today?
Richard Daly (Teacher) & 5th Class - Waterpark N.S.
Mathematics is really important for most scientists, so getting through my maths homework was a big help and set me up well for honours maths in secondary school. If I hadn’t worked hard on maths back in 5th class, I wouldn’t have been able to do the sums and statistics you need to run on your experiments to make sure they’re accurate. Even if you use a computer to do the hard sums, you need to know what it’s doing in case it goes wrong, or shows up an answer that doesn’t look right.
Reading and talking in front of others was very important too, a big part of science is being able to give presentations and talk about your work, so if you read a lot of books now and you can talk to your class about something for a couple of minutes, you’ll feel more comfortable talking to a room full of scientists who will ask you questions about your latest work.
