I’ve been actively studying since since I was in secondary school, which I think I started in 1994, 20 years ago.

My first paid job as a scientist was in a geological lab in Loughrea, Galway, back in 2003 or 2004. It wasn’t much of a job, just crushing rock samples and weighing them out so that chemists could see if there were precious metals in them. It didn’t feel like “real” science.

My first job as a “real” scientist doing my own research was after I got my masters in UCC, in January 2011, so I’ve been a professional scientist for about 3-4 years.

As a psychologist I think that we are all born scientists, little babies test things out, that’s how they learn!

      As a job, I’ve been a scientist since 2005- a looonnngggg time!
