      Hiya,

      the sun is so heavy and dense, that gravity (the force that pulls things down) compresses the gas it consists of. That increases the temperatures inside the core of the sun up to 15 million degrees, so that fusion can happen. Fusion is when atoms smash into each other giving off a lot of energy!
