I like to go out when the weather is good and put some nets out to see what I can catch when the tide comes in.
Its all about exploring what lives in the mud and what fish or other animals swim in during the high tide to feed at the mud flat. I also get to use a shovel to dig around and see whats in the mud and sometimes I catch things near the water with small nets.
I always find and catch things: often there are a lot of crabs, but fish as well like flat fish and eels (eels are very cool). In the mud I find worms, they are very small, and I use a high power microscope to make out there features to be able to identify them!
– I was working in Essex mud flats in England once, and we found a lot of bullet shells and old grenades because the coastal saltmarshes are for shooting training of the army.
