Most of all because I like science. A combination of decent teachers and access to plenty of reading material made science just more interesting than other subjects. Reading about college courses just made me want to do science more, because it was fun, and I could end up getting a job doing something I love, and one thing I was always sure of was that I was never going to let myself get trapped in a job I didn’t like.

So I became a scientist because it’s fun, because I could, and because there was no way in Hell I was ever going to become an accountant.

Because I love science, I always have since I was in primary school. I am not in it for the money, being a scientist gives you a way of sharing your ideas with others so that you can help the public.

      Hiya,

I always wanted to be a marine biologist. When I was younger that was because my favourite TV show was Ocean Girl, which is about this girl Neri, who lives on a remote tropical island and makes friends with the two boys who life in a research station in the ocean! So much fun!

      Check a clip out here:

Later I wanted to learn more about oceans and also what threats they face and what I can do to help!

I had a great teacher in school called Mr Bell, he taught me biology. He really got me hooked on science. I didn’t know that there was a science that studied the mind until I heard about Psychology at a university open day and I knew it was for me! Once I understood that we can study human behaviour through clever experiments I knew I wanted to be a scientist!
