      Hey,

      I think so, there is hope. In Europe alone we now have important policies and laws like The Water Framework Directive, that sets targets to get better environmental status in rivers and seas. So all countries are working towards achieving this. That means putting waste into rivers by factories is now illegal for example, and river quality is controlled and monitored/ tested much more.
      There is still a very long way to go, but we are making progress 🙂
