I was born in Germany but grew up in Co. Galway. I’ve wanted to become a scientist since I was very young and today can’t ever see myself doing anything else. I spend my free time following several hobbies. I have been part of the NUI Galway Fencing club since I started college, I love competing and being part of a close knit team of people. I love fishing, either from the shore or on my kayak on the hunt for big fish in the sea as well as in lakes and rivers. My most unusual hobby is that I keep a lot of strange pets, I currently have six snakes and five lizards of different species from all over the world!

My Typical Day
Working on reports, ordering stock from suppliers, interacting with other teams.

While I’m still working from home, I get up in the morning, begin making breakfast as my computer is starting up, quickly check on or feed my animals before starting my day’s work. What I work on can change all the time. Sometimes its research reports, orders from suppliers, interacting with volunteers or participating in meetings. At the moment, since we can’t currently continue visiting schools because of COVID-19, I’m working on a project to develop a remote DNA extraction workshop so that starting in September we can continue doing experiments with schools even though we won’t be able to visit them in person. This means that at the moment my typical day involves helping to design the kit needed for the workshop and talking to companies to see if they can supply us with the materials that we need for it.
After work, I like to chill out by playing PlayStation with my housemate or spending time with my animals.
