My pronouns are she/her. I grew up in the west of Mayo and moved to Galway to start my undergraduate course in Biotechnology in 2011. I was one of the volunteers that started Cell EXPLORERS in 2012 and I really enjoy doing science experiments with young people and talking to them about science. My favourite thing to do is play games, either solo or with friends. I have a board game library with over 60 different board games, and I love inviting people over for dinner and game night! I also play video games on the PS4 and I’m very excited for the new CyberPunk2077 game coming out in November. I also enjoy reading fantasy novels, and twice a week I train with my Irish-speaking football team Gaeil na Gaillimhe- H’up!

I usually wake up at 8am. I do some yoga to help wake myself up, and then I have breakfast. I try to be at my desk at 9am (but more often than not it’s 10am!). I generally work from my desk on my computer and a cup of tea (and a biscuit…) is never too far away from me!
Everyday is a little different. Sometimes I am doing lots of planning and making lists and chatting with other people to see the best way of doing activities online. Lately I have been making a lot of little videos about different parts of the Cell EXPLORERS programme – this can be fun to do! I usually finish working at about 5pm, and then I do some exercise (either running or Gaelic football training). Then my evening is spent watching TV or playing video games!

Quickfire Q/A questions
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Friendly, stubborn, easy-going
What did you want to be after you left school?
Scientist, doctor, teacher, pilot, writer, translator - it changed a lot!
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Not often. I got detention a few times for forgetting my homework (I’m very forgetful…)
Who is your favourite singer or band?
At the moment I’m listening to a lot of synthwave electro mixes, because it’s a steady beat and no lyrics. It helps when I’m writing!
What's your favourite food?
A spice bag from Xi Jang in Galway
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Ride rollercoasters at Disneyworld!
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
I wish I were less of a procrastinator, that I had a house with lots of natural light and windows, that I had a calico kitty (this might actually happen soon, I’m very excited!)
Tell us a joke.
Anyone know any jokes about sodium? Na.
