I’m a microbiologist so, I study microscopic organisms like bacteria. I spend lots of time trying to see how a certain bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli for short!) responds to light. E. coli lives in our intestines and sometimes it can cause infections. I’m trying to use light to kill E. coli so we have new ways to treat people who are ill.

I’m a Medical Student! I’m in college in NUIG at the minute, studying so that one day I can be a doctor.
We learn all about the science behind how the body works and what happens when something goes wrong in the body, and how to fix it and treat the patient.
Doctors are always looking at the science to help them decide what medicines to give or what treatments to do!

I am a Biochemist which means I study biology with a small bit of chemistry. As a biochemist I study the chemical processes that occur within the cells of living organisms such as ourselves. I focus on DNA, which is like the instruction book of our cells, and how our cells can fix any mistakes that happen to our DNA.

I have just gotten my degree in Chemistry. Chemistry is all about the way matter (stuff in the world) interacts with itself and the changes it makes in response to stimuli, like heat or light.

I’m a microbiologist! I study microorganisms, that can be seen through a microscope, such as bacteria. I am in my final year of college, for my project I am doing a literary review on microbe-microbe interactions in the digestive tract

I am a microbiologist! Biology is the study of living things, but MICRObiology is specifically the study of very, very small living things, (things so small you need a microscope to see them). These microorganisms include bacteria and fungi!

In the lab I work mostly with bacteria! I am trying to find bacteria that can make things that can be helpful to humans, like antibiotics which you take when you are sick.
