A solar panel consists basically of many cells connected together. These cells are called photovoltaic. Each photovoltaic cell is like a sandwich made up of two slices of semi-conducting material (usually silicon) each of which is mixed with other materials so that the one can have a positive and the other a negative electrical charge. When the sun light strikes it knocks electrons free allowing them to move from the negative side and create direct current. Then, they go back through the positive side awaiting for the next sun ray to come.
