Yes, sometimes. I would use a microscope to look at brain slices to detect areas of damage and look at specific types of brain cells to see if any of them are altered in angelman syndrome

Yes, I use simple microscopes to stain the new bacteria that I am studying to help me identify them by looking at their shape and colour like in this picture:
I hope to learn more types of microscopy, for example confocal that uses fluorescent stains to view bacteria living in biofilms and see which ones are living/dead.
