No I haven’t, although I’ve done some activities and workshops with students in secondary schools through my research institute. Talking to students during I’m A Scientist, I’ve been struck by how few students have been able to get a chance to use microscopes. As I study bacteria, these are one of my favourite things because it’s easy to overlook bacteria when we can’t see them due to their tiny size! If I win the money, my plan is to buy lots of Foldscopes (portable paper microscopes) and design an activity to visit lots of schools to talk a bit about the bacteria I study and work with students to sample different things to try to see bacteria for themselves.
