• Question: how much effort did you put in your leaving cert? did it pay off?

      I was really bad at Irish, so I did an extra subject to make up for it (honestly , I got a d in ordinary level). I studies hard and it did mean I got the course I wanted at university. However my brother did not work hard, did not get the course he wanted and found his own way in life. He is happy, with a good job. Studying is improtant, but it is not the be all and end all.

      I put in a moderate amount of effort, I can’t say I methodically studied as one should all the way along but I definitely paid attention and made sure I was understanding things throughout the year. Then it’s fair to say I crammed to prepare in the weeks leading up to it. I guess it paid off in a sense as I got 600 points, but on the other hand I never actually used them because I went back to college as a mature student and your Leaving Certificate isn’t generally taken into account. The Leaving definitely isn’t the be and end all, it’s not a great measure of intelligence imo and there are lots of other ways to continue your studies.
