Thanks for the question zest42cup! I won’t lie, it can be very difficult to work with a child, especially when they are very little and need you 24/7 and you don’t get much sleep. However I’d qualify this by saying that my daughter is the love of my life and she brings so much joy and laughter into my life, everyday. It suits some families to have a parent at home full time, just as it suits other families to have a parent pursuing a fulltime career, in my own experience the important thing is that a family can choose to pursue the arrangement that suits them best without being too influenced by economic necessity or judgement from others. I think that it’s good for my daughter to see that my working in science is no big deal; my Mum is a physiotherapist who always worked when my siblings and I were growing up so she is something of a role model for me and probably influenced my choice of career.
