Generally there shouldn’t be, tap water is checked for quality regularly to make sure that it is not contaminated with bacteria, parasites or viruses. However, if the water treatment processes haven’t worked properly (some water treatment plants are old, operating over capacity, there might be excess rainfall…) then the water can become contaminated by microbes. This isn’t safe to drink so a boil notice will likely be issued. However, just because a person drinks contaminated water it does not mean that they will get sick, it will depend on things like how healthy they are, their age, exactly how many microbes were in the water, whether the microbes in the water are disease-causing or not.
