Do as much preparation during the junior cert/leaving cert as you can by taking as many science/math related subjects to make sure you like engineering. Study as hard as you can but there’s always back doors into courses if you don’t get into your first choice college

Be curious. Honestly, the most important aspect of any STEM subject is to be curious. Also, keep up with the maths. If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying. I started life as biologist and now I am an analytical chemist…..you never know where life will take you.

There’s so many fields in engineering – civil (building) but also energy, electronic, mechanical , biomedical engineering… my advice would be to stay curious and work hard on science and maths as these are probably the most important subjects if you wanted to go onto further studies at third level. Maybe you could also see if there are any short courses/workshops on near you that you could attend to get some hands-on experience such as Sparkademy or CoderDojo.
