We see this all the time in volcanic areas! So some islands are made by an underwater volcano erupting and spitting out lava onto the sea floor. When the hot lava touches the cold water it starts to cool down and turn solid. This can build up to form underwater mountains, ridges or even islands like Hawaiian islands!
I totally agree with what William wrote. You will end up to cool the lava until the point is turning into solid rock.
If the amount of water it is very little compared to the amount of lava, it will happen that all your water will evaporate quickly.
