I have found some coral fossils on the west coast of Ireland. They are quite common, so they werent useful in making any discoveries, but very pretty to look at. Did you know that there are cold water coral reefs in the Atlantic ocean just off the coast of Ireland? The reefs are found at 800 to 1000 metres deep. They are about 1000m wide and are shaped like small hills. The coral reefs are home to other animals like crabs, shrimp, fish and sponges.
Certain corals are useful as fossils that geologists can use to date the age of the rocks in which they are found.
