Rainbows are formed by the scattering of light. Light from the sun appears to be white, but is actually made up of seven colours, the colours of the rainbow. Each colour has a different wavelength. When it rains, the water droplets separate the light into its seven colours and all reflecting in different directions creating a rainbow.
