      Hi Sean,
The first animal I ever found was probably some sort of insect when I was really young. I was a bit of a tomboy, always playing outside with my brother. Since I started studying zoology and became a scientist I have came across loads of weird and unusual animals. One of the first things I found was an urchin shell on a beach in Dublin. Have you ever seen a sea urchin? They have a round shell with loads of spikes sticking out (these are for protection-some species even have venom in their spikes!). Inside the shell they have a soft body. When they die, the spikes and soft tissue decomposes but their shell remains intact. The shell and spikes can be black, green, orange and many other colours. Urchins are hervbivores. They crawl along rocks and scrape off pieces of seaweed
