I’d like to run an event, taking a class out to a nature reserve for a day to tell them all about how fun and interesting it is to study wild animals (particularly birds), why the animals are important for us and why we should treat conservation seriously. Hopefully, we’ll be able to catch and release some birds on the day. Otherwise, I’d like to develop a series of short, fun and informative cartoons to teach young students about wildlife and the topics I mentioned earlier.

If I was lucky enough to win, I’d spend it on producing evolution-themed activity packs to distribute to schools, using the Trinity College Geological Museum collections. They would contain cool fossils and rocks to look at.
My other idea is to organize a fossil hunting trip for schools, so that students can try their hand at looking for fossils!

I f I was lucky enough to win I would have to decide between two ideas. Either set up a marine biology website that is full of amazing facts and pictures about sea life in Irish waters and abroad. A part of the site would include a section for people to share their photos and experiences with sea life. Or my second idea is to buy models of animals like jellyfish and sharks to show people a close up view of the bodies of these sea creatures that people rarely encounter close up.

If I am that lucky, I would spend the money on digital field microscopes that I could bring with me on school trips to the woods or the seashore. I could show pupils all the amazing little creatures that live in rock pools, in ponds, under logs and in the leaf litter. They look absolutely fabulous when you see them up close!

If im lucky enough to win any money I will use it run an event that our department takes part in called Discover Research were we open the doors of our department to the public and tell people what we do. We show the public what reserchers are studying and we alaso get to show our Zoology Museum off as well.
We currently run the event with no money at all so I will use any prize funds to help keep the event running and to create more and better displays (projectors, printing posters etc) of our research so that hopefully we can keep our doors open to you guys!
