  The Kola superdeep borehole is the deepest hole in the world- they’ve been digging it since 1970!
  
  But I suppose you could potentially dig to the earths mantle? I don’t think the Russian borehole has gone through the earths crust!

  Kathryn has mentioned the Kola borehole, which goes halfway down to the mantle, but how deep we can physically go, we don’t actually know until we try it. Usually its temperature, as of course the deeper you go the hotter and higher pressure it gets, so probably the point where the pressures are far too high and the drill actually melts!
