      If you think about ‘matter’ and the particles that make it up, string theory is a way of looking at the interaction and excitation of these particles by thinking of them as strings. Physics is not a big part of my job though, I would listen to the master :

      Great question once again, and I definitely didn’t do it enough justice in the live chat so thanks for asking it here! First off string theory is weird…really weird! It involves higher dimensions and other universes and is the first theory in physics that attempts to solve everything. It attempts to model the four fundamental interactions gravitation, electromagnetism, strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force together in one theory. Einstein tried to combine these four interactions, but didn’t get as far as developing the string theory. But its a theory, with no experimentation behind it.
