DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid which means it is a ribose SUGAR with no oxygen side group, a nitrogen rich amino acid, and a phosphate group. They come in 4 flavors: Adenine, Guanin, Tyrosine, and Cytosine. They are paired so that an T always bonds to an A and C always bonds to a G… when you have RNA which is used to send messages or transfer information, make proteins in a cell the Tyrosine gets replaces with uracil which we call just U.

Simply put, your DNA is made up of five elements- hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen oxygen and phosphorus. If you think you each element like a different coloured Lego blocks, or balls, DNA is just made up of long windy chains of thousands of these Lego blocks.

Well put there by the others there! DNA is the building blocks of life and contains ‘instructions’ an organism needs to develop, grow and reproduce, and are made up of molecules called nucleotides. Each nucleotide contains one of the groups Kathryn mentioned already!
