Taste is a signal that starts from your taste buds and it’s originally evolved from the necessity to recognize editable and good food (Sweet) from the rot and unhealthy (bitter).
Later we also develop the other tastes due to our great use of salt.

It is to do with what is in the food. Things that are sweet generally have a higher sugar content, but this can be natural sugars such as in fruit

Flavor or flavour (see spelling differences) is the sensory impression of a food or other substance, and is determined mainly by the chemical senses of taste and smell. While the taste of food is limited to sweet, sour, bitter, salty, umami, and other basic tastes, the smells of a food are potentially limitless.

The chemical compounds and sugar content in foods make them sweet or bitter.
