You generally want to wash for 40 – 60 seconds under running tap water.

Rinsing under running tap water is perfectly okay. No need to wash with soap or anything.

Rinsing them under tap water should be sufficient. You don’t have to use any detergents, it’s just to get rid of any residues on the surfaces.

You can wash you fruits and vegetables to remove the chemicals/other hazards which are on the surface. But, most of the chemicals are systemic, which means that they are absorbed by the plants and circulate inside the plants while they grow. This is a mechanism that helps in controlling the diseases/pests throughout the growing season. However the drawback is that there are traces left from these, which enters into our food cycle. This is why we need more genetically resistant crop varieties.
