I was 14. My elder brother is a scientist. He came home then and I took some of his books on chemistry and biology to read. I asked him a lot of questions and he showed some cool science stuff and I immediately got interested. He later gave me grinds in Maths and Physics while preparing for my leaving Cert.

I was 17. We did a semester long project that got me into research and I’ve never looked back since.

I was probably in my 20s already studying science in university. I studied science as I knew a science degree can open the door to many different jobs. At that stage I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay in science long term. In the summer after my 3rd year of university I done a placement in a lab and I loved it. I haven’t looked back since.
