Calories are invisible. They are a unit of measurement for the amount of energy we can get from different foods.
Foods are made up of different amounts of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. There are 4 calories in a gram of carbohydrate or protein, and 9 calories in a gram of fat. The calories in a food can be calculated from the amount of carbohydrate, fats and proteins in the food.
