      Hello,

We have a very strict code which minimises the suffering caused to animals under our care. However there are certain times when some pain or suffering may be caused during an experiment. For example, inserting a needle to take a blood sample. Usually animal care staff and veterinarians are on hand to treat the animal and minimise suffering.

We don’t use any animals in our study except humans. They get a sample of blood taken like during a blood test. Sometimes we don’t even take a blood sample, we just take a saliva sample instead!

No, I only work with breast cancer cells which were taken from a patient. I do however, think animal studies are very important in scientific research. Special care is always taken to make sure the animals are safe, treated well, and are never in pain.

      Hi there,
Yes, when it is necessary I work on animal (mouse) immune cells which are taken from their bone marrow but we have very strict rules to make sure the animals don’t suffer unnecessary pain. We also keep the mice under careful conditions making sure their food and water etc. are plentiful, and they’re kept in groups so they don’t feel lonely! Animal experiments are important for science to progress and medicines to be discovered. In the future, I hope other ways be discovered but for now there is no real alternative.
