Ahh this is such an important question and is widely used in crime scene investigations! Your fingerprints are unique to you and only you. Even identical twins have different fingerprints. Forensic officers use fingerprints to identify suspects by comparing prints found at a crime scene with prints already in police files. (Today, the police department has a huge collection of prints of people.)
At the crime scene, Fingerprint experts use powders and chemicals to make such prints visible and compare those to prints in their database. Then they figure out who was there at the crime scene and do further investigations. Like if the print was found on the murder weapon, that’s a big indication who the killer is 😛
