We always get great responses from our research findings! Any discoveries will go on to help more discoveries happen. But more importantly we want our findings to help change the world. For my lab we hope that if we discover more genetic causes for the disorders we study, that we will help with diagnosis and testing. Being able to diagnose a brain disorder early is so important because it means treatment can be started sooner 🙂
Our research is on MS (multiple sclerosis) which is a disease of the brain and spinal cord. It is an awful condition to have where your vision, movement, speech, and thinking all get affected and its also painful. Ireland has a very high incidence of patients with MS, one of the highest in the world! This is why its so important for us to be at the forefront researching this disease. Our government has funded my supervisor’s lab for that very purpose, so we can research as much as we can to help find new treatments for MS. Right now there aren’t many treatments and no cure! Any research we do is going to be beneficial for other researchers and the people!
