Many thanks for your question! Over the last 100 years, average life expectancy in western societies steadily increased due to better sanitation, nutrition and improved healthcare, incl vaccines. For instance, around 1916 in Ireland, average life expectancy was about 53 years. The better we take care of ourselves – and with improvements in healthcare and medicines – then it is perfectly possible to increase the current life expectancy. What is really important these days is not about how long a person will live, but what will their quality of life be when they are getting older and older (for example, consider age related diseases that not many people would have lived long enough to develop years ago, such as Alzheimer’s disease. For live extension radically beyond this point, one can look to genetic enhancement as one possible route and also the work of people who think there are people today that can live to 1,000 years. They will need a big cake for the candles! See more here: https://futurism.com/aging-expert-person-1000-born
Yes, considering how our scientific progress has risen exponentially over the last few decades, I am very optimistic about the future. More and more people are living longer due to better food, sanitation, medicine and awareness. 🙂
