The very first experiment I ever did was apparently at the age of 5….I shoved a Mars bar into our VHS (video player) in a experiment to see what would happen. Since then, I’ve been shoving things into bacteria, so not much has changed!
I guess the first I’ve ever done was trying to mix milk with various other liquids to see what happened (a b0red 10 year old child at dinner….!). I learned that milk curdles when mixed with some things but not in others. I only learned much later in life that it’s because some things contain the right type of acid to make this happen, and that it’s the reason milk curdles to make cheese!
Perhaps the first very embarrassing experiment was to observe the decomposition of a toast, but after a few days I left it my mum throw it away! Nowadays I don’t do experiments anymore. I am a theoretical physicist and I design experimental proposals for my experimental collaborators, but generally I don’t go to the lab!
ohhh that’s a fun one, thanks Dara! well, my first experiment was to kiss a frog and see if it turned into a prince! it unfortunately didn’t 🙁 I ve since abandoned that idea and now observe sea creatures in the deep-sea instead.
