Grass is green for the same reason that leaves and other plants are – they all have chlorophyll! Chlorophyll is a green pigment which is present in chloroplasts in plant cells – this is the centre of plant metabolism or reactions. It is really important for photosynthesis – how plants make energy and oxygen from light, through a chemical reaction.

The reason the chlorophyll is green is because it can absorb all the other colour of the light spectrum, but not green – hence light reflects a green colour back out!
