Yes. Lots. But Nikola Tesla is One of my favourites. He was very quiet and never expected to make money. He was more interested In making discoveries and sharing them with the world. He invented electricity and greatly helped improve radios and x-rays. He also had a great moustache which I am copying for charity as part of movember! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla
@ciaracarroll, hi!
I admire scientists who were able to make discoveries with very little in terms of money and equipment! Albert Einstain for example came up with his theory of relativity while working as a patent officer in Switzerland. He was not even working for a university at the time! It is the ability of the mind to overcome hurdles posed by the lack of money or equipment that inspires me! Most of the ealry scientists had to be like that. Galileo, Copernicus, Marie Curie!
Even going back to the ancient Greek philosophers/scientists. They were able to produce so much of important knowledge by just using their minds. Knowledge which is still important to us on a daily basis.
There are lots – in fact there are very few scientists I don’t respect and admire. The only scientist that I would not look up to is one that is lazy and negative about their work. I particularly admire Marie Curie though, for lots of reasons. She did a lot of work which established the field of radioactivity and was responsible for the first attempt to treat cancer. I also admire her for making her mark on the world in a time when women were expected to stay in the home. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Curie
