WHOA thats a tricky question! But very interesting, yes. Singularities are a point where the gravitational field becomes infiniate at a point in space and time…which people think could describe the start of the universe. So, I think the idea of there being something that is the point that is the origin of the universe to be really interesting, but a bit confusing to think about!
Some people think that there might be a singularity at the centre of every black hole.
@gerry,
I find singularities very interesting and intriguing as they challenge our scientific knowledge and the way human mind can understand things. The concept of infinite density because mass has been concentrated in a single point (i.e. singularity) is mind-bogling but the prospect of known physical laws not being laws anymore is powerful as it creates so many possibilities even for time travel!
in all honesty, i hadnt thought about singularities much before at all. Although i guess i have been interested in black holes and the big bang, and judging from eileen and aggelos’ answers they sound to be linked. As per my last answer.. i think i need to get reading some astrophyics science books again! its been a while.
