That is such a great question! It is one of the biggest problems with we have. We use tests where we ask them to point at things or to copy what we are doing. We can also scan their brain. In my study we are going to be using eye tracking which is a little camera that tracks where the eyes of the toddler look when they are given a picture to look at or a video to watch. We are hoping this will tell us a bit about their social cognition ( the part of the brain that helps you out in social situations like knowing when to smile or knowing when a person is sad).
