Your heart is powered by an electrical system! So the electrical impulse starts at the SA node in the right atrium of the heart. It spreads to the walls of the stria and causes them to contract. This forces the blood to go to the ventricles. The SA node sets the rate and rhythm of the heart! The AV node is in the middle of the heart and this acts as a gate that slows down the electrical impulse giving the atria time to contract before the ventricles do. Then we move to the His-Purkinje Network that sends the impulse to the walls of the ventricles causing them to contract and this forces the blood out of the heart and into the lungs! Then it all starts again up at the SA node!https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/17064-heart-beat This link explains it as well as shows you pictures of the heart and the nodes!
