Scientists think that your eyesight continues to develop up until about 8 years of age! They think this because if you have problems with your eyes and they are fixed before you are 8 years old your eyesight can improve but it may not fully improve if you are older then 8. They discovered this when a group of doctors was working in India to help people whose eyesight was bad. The children recovered really well but there was one man who had had cataracts (they cover the eye making it hard to see through it). He had had cataracts since he was a little boy and he had never been able to see. They thought if they removed the cataracts then he should be able to see properly again. But he couldn’t because his eyes had stopped developing and his brain did not know what to do with the new information coming in because the vision parts of the brain had not been able to develop properly!
I think Sonia has a great answer here! One thing I could add would be that different animals see things very differently to how we do and sometimes take longer than us to see things. Puppies, for example, are born with their eyes closed. It takes a while for them to open their eyes and see things. This works for them because they have a much stronger sense of smell. 🐶
