Well, the Iapetus ocean I suppose. It used to be wider than the Atlantic but it closed 400 million years ago. The closing created a long chain of mountains that are the Appalachians, the mountains in Newfoundland, Mayo, Donegal, the Scottish highlands and the spine of Scandinavia. If you drive from Dundalk to Dublin you’ll cross from one side of the ocean to the other side of the ocean – draw a line from Termonfeckin in Louth to Limerick and north of the line was one side of the ocean, south of it the other side.
