Not any more, thankfully. That stuff is dangerous!
Fewer and fewer biologists work with radiation, they have replaced radioactive chemicals with fluorescent chemicals which are a lot less toxic to work with. Fluorescent means that the chemicals shine out light of particular colours, when you shine light on them.
Some scientists do still study radiation just not us.. You might find physicists study it a lot more than other scientists (like me because I’m a biologist) so if you are interested in it maybe study physics in secondary school.
