I have been involved in many big projects. The most important to me and for people health, I think, it was during my PhD.
I have built a system to detect skin layers or human tissues. It was using a laser, some optical components and the fact that light is reflected at boundaries. The technique is used to detect cancers.
Apart from my current PhD project (since I started recently) my biggest project was designing an line follower robot with just basic gates. It was not just a line follower but it also contained other features like wall following and obstacle detection. I had to work on physical body and also control electronics. The main hurdle for me and my team was not to use any coding (programming ), the entire robot control electronics was designed using logic gates.
I have been involved in renaming ( reclassifying) a certain bleeding disorder. This was done because tests had got better and it was a great project for the patient.
The biggest project I was involved in was trying to find genes that might cause Autism. It was a big international project that went on for a few years (when we wrote up the results and got them published, there were 177 authors!).
Lots of research in genetics is like that now, with scientists from all over the world working together in big collaborations.
