      In NUI Galway pay starts at €12,000 as a PhD student, going all the way to €136,000 as a Professor.

      As a PhD student…not very much. As Michel said, our pay starts at €12,000 a year (I get a bit more due to some other funding I have). But it’s not very much.

      But I don’t mind. I like my job and enjoy going to work, so as long as I get enough money to keep myself fed and happy, then I’m ok!

      I’m like Mark, except at the moment I have no funding and so I don’t actually get paid anything to do my research, although I was funded €24000 a year (€16000 for living and €8000 for educational expenses) for the first three years. Now I earn money by teaching undergraduate labs in the university, but that doesn’t cover a huge amount, so I’m looking forward to being finished my PhD so I can hopefully get a better paying job!
